If you are living in a country which tries to be strictly catholic, don't be surprised if a doctor refuses to treat you. Not all
of them are like this, hopefully. But what's the point of spending years
on medical studies if you don't want to help people? Few thousands of
Polish doctors signed the Declaration of Faith.
The ones who signed it were people of all specializations.
Is it safe for patients?
Judge
yourself.
DECLARATION OF FAITH
Of Catholic doctors and medicine students in a subject of sexuality and fertility of human.
We - doctors - were entrusted to guard a human life from its beginning.
1. I BELIEVE
The God Almighty, Lord of the Universe, who created a man and a woman in His own image.
2. I AGREE
That human body and life, which are gifts from God, are holy and inviolable:
- body belongs to the laws of nature, but nature was created by God,
- the moment of a conception of human and a moment of passing away depends only on God's will.
If
such a decision is taken by a human, than he violate not only the basic
commandments of Decalogue, but also refuses God Himself. It happens by
committing acts like abortion, contraception, artificial insemination,
euthanasia or in vitro insemination.
3. I ACCEPT
The truth that human
gender, given by God, is biologically determined and is a meaning of a
human existence. It is a nobilitation, a privilege, because human was
eqipped with organs, thanks to whom during a parenthood becomes a
'collaborator God Himself in the act of creation' - the vocation to
parenting is a God's plan and only the ones chosen by God and bounded with Him by a holy sacrament of marriage are allowed to use the organs, which are sacrum in a human body.
4. I DECLARE
That the basis of dignity and freedom of a catholic doctor is only his conscience enlighted by a Holy Spirit and teachings of the Church. He has the right to act according to his conscience and medical ethics, which takes into the account the right to object to the acts inconsistent to his conscience.
5. I AGREE
With a primacy of God's law over the law of human
- The true need to oppose the imposed antihumanitarian ideologies of modern civilisation.
- The need for the continuous deepening not only knowledge of profession, but also knowledge of christian anthropology and theology of the body.
6. I BELIEVE
That - not forcing anyone to their views, beliefs - catholic doctors have a right to expect and demand respect for their views and freedom in doing acts of profession according to their conscience.
"Likewise we hold in the highest esteem those doctors and members of the
nursing profession who, in the exercise of their calling, endeavor to fulfill
the demands of their Christian vocation before any merely human interest. Let
them therefore continue constant in their resolution always to support those
lines of action which accord with faith and with right reason. And let them
strive to win agreement and support for these policies among their professional
colleagues. Moreover, they should regard it as an essential part of their skill
to make themselves fully proficient in this difficult field of medical
knowledge. For then, when married couples ask for their advice, they may be in a
position to give them right counsel and to point them in the proper direction.
Married couples have a right to expect this much from them."
Paul VI, Humane Vitae, 27
