Prayers don't work? This time we cancel Behemoth's show for real.

In the previous post I was writing about this band's problems in their own motherland.
The concert in Łódź took place, despite of... 40 people who were praying in front of the club (haha).

But it's not so easy in Poznań. Few months ago there was a big problem, because on Malta Festival - few-weeks-long festival of cultures and arts - some catholic fanatics decided to block a play called 'Golgota Picnic'. From a local conflict it became a whole-country catholic protest. In the end the play was cancelled. No one of those protesting people saw the play before. People who saw it somewhere else before were telling - no matter if they like it or not - that it was not a blasphemy. Even some priest who also saw it agreed with them.

We haven't seen it, but we must not allow anyone to see it, because it hurts our feelings.

One of the protesters of Golgota Picnic play with a sign:

And now... The blastphemous, loathsome, satanic Behemoth has to play in our city???
No way! We can't allow this!
And this time Poznań's Cathotaliban wins again.

Along to Nergal's post:

"The concert in Poznań cancelled, that's how they gags artists in this country.

So it happened. Poland is the second country - after Russia - where Behemoth's concert is cancelled due to political issues. I regret to announce that on 6th October the band will not play in Eskulap club. Even this morning the band was concidering to play two concerts in 'U Bazyla' club, because we didn't want to disappoint our fans. However, after the closer look with conditions in the club, we decided that with this solution the quality of our concert would suffer too much. At this point of our career we cannot allow this happened and we sincirely hope that our fans will understand this and will patiently wait for another chance to meet with the band.

The facts with cancelling two (!) concerts are:

At the beginning a rector of Medical University, to which Esculap club belongs, did not allow to play the concert on 2nd October, explaining that this date coincided with a beginning of an academic year and it did not fit for the two events to be in the same day. After nagotiations with the University's authorities, leaded by PW Events (concert's promoter), they agreed to move the event to 6th October. We received an rector's agreement for this. 700 tickets for the concert were sold, police agreed for the event, everything was buttoned up... And then our promoter received a writing in which - against earlier assignment - the rector refused to rent a hall for a concert. As the reason there was given 'social receptions' of the event, protests of religious circles and caring about students' and University's staff's safety were also mentioned.

We have no doubts that's a political decision. Anyway we reached the unoficial information that it was decided higher than in rector's room. It's not the first time that artists are gagged in Poznań. The high-profile case of boycott 'Golgota Picnic' play on Malta Festival is only one of examples. We are the victims of censorship today. It must be called so. Poznań, instead of being a center of a free culture, begins to resemble Yekaterinburg in the Urals (one of many places in Russia where, until now - due to protests of religious fanatics - Behemoth's concert was cancelled). 73rd article of Polish Constitution, which is: 'Everyone shall have the freedom of art, science researches and publishing their results, freedom of teaching and using goods of culture'. In our opinion, cancelling the concert due to the pression exerted by few frustrated fanatic people, is nothing else than wiping ass with the article and so the whole Constitution.

For all interested people who would like to obtain more detailed explanations about the decision of the University's authorities, we put below contact data with a spokesman of University. Maybe he'll reveal you whose political pressure decided to cancel the event. (...)"

And here's the decision:

"Whereas social reception of organizing in Akademickie Centrum Kultury (eng. Academic Center of Culture) the concert of Behemot (original spelling), planned on 6th October, including numerous protests of residents and religious groups, and mostly caring about safety of students and staff of University's campus, we are not agree to organize the concert of Behemot."

Because people who go to Behemoth's shows will surely devastate everything around, burn nearby churches and eventually kill everyone in their path.

You all believe it, right?
